The Men Who Love Being Ripped Off
A "rip off fetish" combines elements of shame, humiliation and denial into one neat transaction.
Hello and welcome to Many Such Cases.
One can find a variety of resources online designed to help the average porn consumer avoid “wasting” their money. By waste money, they usually mean purchasing an OnlyFans subscription (or that of some similar platform) that does not meet their expectations — either she’s too much of a tease, she doesn’t show enough, or hides all the real good stuff behind expensive pay-per-view content. On the subreddit r/OnlyFans reviews, for example, one of the worst labels a review can assign to an OnlyFans model is “misleading.”
There is much to critique about this entire dynamic, namely the inherent suspicion of women behind many of these resources and the leveling of sexuality to pure commodity. Today, however, I’d like to explore some of this through one specific lens: the small niche of men for whom this experience of being misled and even the disappointment associated with it is deeply erotic. These are men who love being ripped off.
To them, though, being ripped off doesn’t just look like them purchasing the OnlyFans subscription of a woman and being disappointed that she only posts lingerie pictures. Instead, a more common example would be a situation in which a woman “promised” to post nudes and instead only posts pictures of her trash can, or her blank wall. What results is a cycle of men falsely, naively raising their hopes, only to get exactly what they expected: completely denied from viewing what they ultimately knew they’d never have a chance of seeing in the first place.
